STEM
Projects
For the last two summers, I have worked full-time as an intern at Dr. Nai-Chang Yeh’s lab within the Division of Physics, Mathematics and Astronomy at Caltech.
As a rising junior last summer, I was only 15 and considered a minor with limited access to laboratory equipment. However, I was excited about being introduced to a Scanning Tunneling Microscope (STM) as it is used to produce high-resolution images to characterize new nanomaterials at the atomic level. Soon, I was tasked to use the electrochemical STM tip etching method to maintain its function, and write codes to analyze its data using Python.
This summer, I was excited to be back in the lab…. I am better armed with knowledge from Calculus BC and AP Physics (1 & 2), I feel much more confident about contributing to the research discussions. I began with image processing and data analysis using Python programming and my computer networking knowledge.
2. CyberPatriot – Cisco Networking
2023-2024 Team Member
I joined the CyberPatriot team as a njROTC member in my freshmen
year. I chose to specialize in Cisco Networking because it was new and
unfamiliar to me. I had to learn the Cisco system and learn to work with
a brand new team.
2024-2025 Team Leader
I coordinated and motivated a group with more experience. We decided to
team up with friends and we formed the “Cybercrab” team where we even
designed and made our own sweat shirts for team spirit. This year,I
served as the team leader, I was able to make huge improvements on our
competition team scores, and I was recruited by a couple of top teams
for the following years.
2025-2026 Student Instructor
I taught Cisco curriculum to fellow students in the CyberPatriot program
in the classroom setting. I also had to prepare the teaching material
and devise quiz materials to test the trainees.
2025-2026 Student Instructor Supervisor
I interviewed applicants for our Student teaching team. I will become not only the lead instructor teaching new participants about Cisco Networking programs, I will also be supervising and coordinating activities for the student instructor team in the coming year.
I learned Python programming on my own using resources online. To practice, I decided to write a program to solve a 3×3 rubik’s cube within 30 seconds. Here is the link to my program, you can try with any mix:
I continue to use Python, especially in my internship, for data analyses.
